The Province is seeking construction firms to provide rockfall mitigation and barrier installation services for Project 2026-09 (S042) at the rockfall hazard on the west side of Whiteman’s Pond, approximately 5 km southwest of Canmore, Alberta. The site is at the southeast end of the Mount Rundle range on the north side of Whiteman’s Gap (between Mount Rundle and Ha Ling Peak) and comprises two rock faces with opposing aspects, a variable rock slope height of about 90–120 m, and an underlying talus deposit of highly variable depth and particle sizes. The highway beneath the site ranges from about 6 m to 9 m wide and the site extends approximately 350 m along the highway in three sections (≈200 m north, ≈100 m south and a 50 m “nose” section). Work includes rock scaling, installation of spot bolts on rock, barrier anchors in talus and bedrock, rockfall hybrid and dynamic barrier installations, F-Shape barrier installation, and installation of survey prisms; tree removal is excluded and will be completed prior to construction. The site lies within an uncontrolled avalanche area monitored by the Kananaskis Mountain Rescue program and is in the East End of Rundle Control Zone 7 (EEOR7), which is subject to intermittent closure from November through April unless regulatory consent is obtained by the Consultant. The procurement uses a qualification-based RFQ where submissions must score at least 65% of the maximum achievable total to be pre-qualified and shortlisted respondents will be invited to participate in the Tender process; the project delivery method is Design-Bid-Build.

This tender is likely most valuable to contractors with proven experience in rockfall mitigation, anchor and barrier system installation, and working on mountain highway slopes; key considerations include meeting the RFQ pre-qualification threshold (≥65%), operating within an avalanche-control zone with potential Nov–Apr access restrictions requiring regulatory consent, and addressing highly variable talus conditions, steep slopes and limited highway width for construction access.
