Tender: Phytoremediation Services at Eureka High Arctic Weather Station, Ellesmere Island
Released about 2 months ago
About
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is seeking a supplier for phytoremediation implementation, monitoring and assessment at the Eureka High Arctic Weather Station (HAWS) on the north side of Slidre Fjord, northwestern Fosheim Peninsula, Ellesmere Island (approximately 80° N). The HAWS occupies CIRNAC land reserve #1021 (2.23 ha), is owned and operated by the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC), and has areas of soil impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) that cannot be excavated due to proximity to infrastructure or embankment stability and erosion. The requirement is for a qualified contractor with recent experience in phytoremediation, ecological restoration and contaminated-site remediation to support a low-carbon remedial approach that may be enhanced using Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) seed treatments (PEPSystems®). Work must commence upon notification of acceptance and be completed no later than March 31, 2029. For additional information contact Helena Lee at Helena.Lee@ec.gc.ca.
This opportunity is likely valuable to contractors with recent phytoremediation and contaminated-site restoration experience—especially those familiar with PGPR/PEPSystems® and northern or remote operations. Key considerations include the remote Arctic location (~80° N) and short growing season despite extended daylight, restrictions on excavation near infrastructure and embankment stability, and the firm completion deadline of March 31, 2029.
