Athabasca County is seeking a supplier for mechanical reclamation of land disturbed by the Jackfish Lake wildfire that began May 3, 2023 and burned approximately 2,553 hectares in Athabasca County. The work covers the portion of the wildfire outside the Forest Protection Area and targets disturbances from wildfire suppression operations such as fireguards, creek crossings, pipeline crossings and helipads to prevent soil erosion, stabilize soils and promote recovery of wildlife habitat and vegetation to a near-natural state. Vegetation on affected sites includes trembling aspen and balsam poplar, with white spruce and black spruce as the major coniferous species and minor tamarack and jack pine; most dozer guards are on upland ground reclaimable in non-frozen dry conditions, though some upland stretches may require frozen conditions for access.

This tender is well suited to contractors experienced in mechanical land reclamation and heavy-equipment operations on upland and frozen-access sites. Key considerations include that the scope is limited to areas outside the Forest Protection Area (Alberta has reclaimed within the FPA), planning for both non-frozen and frozen access conditions, and meeting soil stabilization and habitat recovery requirements across mixed aspen and spruce terrain.
