The Global Institute for Energy, Minerals & Society (GIEMS) is seeking a qualified Indigenous-owned consulting firm, or a consulting firm partnered with an Indigenous-owned business, to undertake an environmental and societal assessment as part of the FEL-1 feasibility study into a potential nuclear research reactor on the University of Saskatchewan Saskatoon campus. The assessment will incorporate meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, rightsholders, and broader stakeholders and examine environmental, land-use, water, air, and socio-cultural considerations while integrating Indigenous-led environmental perspectives and knowledge systems; it will also consider workforce, community, and societal factors that could influence potential siting, design, and project development. The successful proponent will identify relevant rightsholders and stakeholders, establish appropriate engagement approaches, document perspectives and concerns, assess environmental and societal risks and constraints, and identify information gaps and further engagement or assessment requirements to inform the FEL-1 findings and conditions for potential advancement to FEL-2.
