Vegetation management services are sought for Wabamun Lake Provincial Park to reduce wildfire risk in forested areas directly adjacent to the hamlet of Wabamun and the community of Lakeview. The project aims to reduce surface fuel loading to lower fire intensity, slow rate of spread and reduce potential for crown fire, with treatments focused on areas east and north of homes and properties and along the park’s emergency egress route to improve user safety and first-responder access. Work is intended to follow FireSmart principles and recommendations from two 2023 FireSmart Wildfire Hazard Assessments and the park’s Basic Wildfire Risk Assessment, and is suited to small specialized equipment (e.g., narrow-tracked skid steers) and hand-thinning and pruning using chainsaws, brush saws and pole saws. Refer to the RFQ document for additional information and the complete scope of work.

This could be ideal for contractors experienced in fuel-management work who have small tracked machinery and proven hand-thinning/pruning capability and familiarity with FireSmart approaches. Key considerations include operating adjacent to private properties and communities, constraints on equipment size and access, and the need to maintain safe emergency egress routes while implementing fuel-reduction treatments.
