The Department of National Defence is seeking freight forwarding service providers and brokers for inclusion on its 2025 Freight Forwarding Transportation Source Lists to support domestic and international multi‑modal movement of materiel. Two separate source lists are being established—Freight Forwarding (Simple) for routine movements of a small number of sea containers, vehicles/trailers or equipment that can co-mingle with non-military cargo and use existing shipping routes, and Freight Forwarding (Complex) for large numbers of containers, vehicles/trailers, oversized or non-containerized equipment, non-routine movements that may restrict co-mingling, may not use existing routes, may require part or all of a vessel or include military-unique shipping needs. Each source list requires a separate application addressing the qualifying criteria in the Application Form; applications submitted by February 14, 2025 will be reviewed immediately for inclusion effective February 19, 2025, while later applications will be reviewed as time permits for inclusion for the remainder of the three-year validity period. DND may conduct credit and/or security checks, some requirements can arise on an urgent basis (under 24 hours), and individual requirements may have security, dangerous goods or controlled goods considerations; submissions must be sent to Derek Shields at TransportationContracting@forces.gc.ca.

This is suited to freight forwarding companies and brokers capable of domestic and international multi-modal shipments who can apply separately for routine (simple) or large/complex moves; key considerations include meeting the separate-application requirement and deadlines, readiness for potential credit/security checks, the possibility of urgent (<24-hour) tasking, and handling security, dangerous goods or controlled-goods requirements and the risk of removal if found in breach.
