Tender: Amphibious Airtanker Group and Turbine Birddog Aircraft for Wildfire Suppression — Alberta
Released about 2 months ago
About
The Province is seeking a supplier for a multiplane amphibious airtanker group supported by one turbine-powered birddog aircraft for primary wildfire suppression. The airtanker group must provide a combined capacity of at least 10,000 litres using a minimum of two and up to four purpose-designed amphibious airtankers, each with a minimum 3,000-litre capacity and compartmentalized or variable/constant flow tanks, all operated with fully qualified aircrew. The Province may accept short-term Transition Aircraft if necessary (details must be provided in Attachment #2); all aircraft must be approved by Transport Canada via a Canadian Type Certificate or accepted foreign certificate, and the contractor must hold a valid license under the Canadian Transportation Act and an appropriate Transport Canada Air Operator Certificate. The Province guarantees 120 days for each aircraft each year over the ten-year contract term, with no guaranteed flying hours during the Core Period, and aircraft may be positioned throughout Alberta or exported outside the province and repositioned with minimal notice for indefinite periods.
This could be ideal for operators already running Transport Canada-certified amphibious airtankers and a turbine birddog with an existing Air Operator Certificate and capacity to supply 2–4 aircraft meeting the 3,000 L minimum. Key considerations include meeting Transport Canada certification and AOC requirements, committing aircraft for 120 days per year over a ten-year term despite no guaranteed flying hours in the Core Period, staffing fully qualified aircrew, and readiness to reposition aircraft across Alberta or beyond on short notice; any use of Transition Aircraft must be documented in Attachment #2.
