The University of Alberta is seeking a supplier for the collection of source-separated organics, recyclables and solid waste from its Edmonton-area campuses, with an opportunity to serve the University of Alberta Botanical Gardens (Parkland County) and Augustana Campus (Camrose). Proponents must propose collection, removal and processing services for organics (including food scraps, paper towels and other soft papers, food-soiled paper products, certified compostable items, and yard waste), mixed paper/cardboard, mixed recyclables (soft and rigid plastics, metal, glass, and refundable beverage containers), scrap metal, construction and demolition waste, and solid waste. The University invites creative proposals that demonstrate continuous improvement in cost savings, environmental sustainability and collection efficiency, and requires demonstrable experience, technical expertise and creativity in delivering comprehensive, integrated waste management solutions in accordance with municipal, provincial and federal legislation. The University aims to significantly reduce landfill-bound materials, improve material management effectiveness and efficiency, and align the program with its Zero Waste Plan and Operational GHG Emissions and Reduction Plan. The University intends to award an initial four-year agreement with the option for up to two three-year extensions (total up to 10 years) based on satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.
