Oil Sands Monitoring Branch is seeking a supplier for operation and maintenance of in-situ snow survey and meteorological monitoring stations in the Athabasca Oil Sands Region. The contract supports collection of long-term snow and meteorological data to characterize climatic conditions within the lower Athabasca watershed and to improve understanding of the natural variability and trends that influence surface water availability; these datasets are used to support surface water quantity monitoring and management applications including estimation of total loading (sediment and water quality), support for navigation (e.g., Athabasca mainstem), interpretation of water quality and aquatic ecosystem monitoring results, and development of environmental base flows to protect aquatic ecosystems, and to provide context for evaluating hydrological conditions relative to historical mean or extreme conditions.
