About

The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is seeking interpreters to join an as-and-when-requested roster to provide interpretation for refugee protection and immigration hearings in a wide variety of languages and dialects across Canada. The IRB issues contracts that allow interpreters to be called for urgent and scheduled hearings and to invoice for services at a flat hourly rate. Selection for contract award considers fluctuating language demand, previous interpretation experience, fluency in reading and speaking the official and target language or dialect, familiarity with regional customs and culture, and referrals; applicants who are considered will undergo IRB evaluations in oral interpretation and sight translation in both the target and official languages. Not all qualified applicants will receive a contract due to varying regional demand, and when scheduling hearings the IRB may call successive interpreters on short notice and aims to distribute work equitably though assignments can vary by availability and dialect fluency.
