Government of Yukon, Department of Environment is contracting Wildlife Genetics International to provide genetic analyses for up to 1,525 grizzly bear and black bear hair samples from the Selwyn Mountains, Yukon. The estimated project value is up to 85,000 and the anticipated contract period is October 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, with a renewal option for up to two additional years subject to funding availability and the department’s needs. The department intends to award this contract by direct award to Wildlife Genetics International because, to its knowledge, that firm is the only contractor able to supply the required services and was the sole bidder under the related Request for Expression of Interest. This procurement is subject to Chapter Five of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement.

This is relevant to molecular wildlife genetics laboratories or environmental genetics service providers capable of processing large numbers of bear hair samples; however, the contract is intended as a direct award to Wildlife Genetics International and only one bidder responded, which may limit immediate opportunities for other suppliers, and any renewal depends on future funding and departmental needs.
