About

The National Research Council of Canada is seeking information on advanced X-ray inspection systems to support research, development, characterization and failure analysis of rechargeable battery technologies. The Automotive and Surface Transportation (AST) Research Centre requires high-resolution two-dimensional (2D) X-ray imaging suitable for examining battery cells, cell components and related assemblies for lithium-ion, sodium-ion, solid-state and emerging battery technologies used in transportation, aerospace, defence and stationary energy storage. The focus is on non-destructive internal imaging to evaluate cell construction, manufacturing quality, degradation mechanisms and failure modes; image quality, spatial resolution, defect detection capability, sample manipulation flexibility, system versatility and suitability for laboratory-based research are priorities while inspection throughput is not a primary consideration. The information will help NRC understand available technologies, capabilities and limitations and inform future technical requirements.
